Turkish Investor to Invest in South Sumatra

The South Sumatra’s success in attracting investment in the region has agained bore fruit recently. This has been marked by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between South Sumatra Governor, H. Alex Nordin, and a Turkish investor, Mr. Emin Hitay, who is the CEO of one of the largest Turkish company in mining industries.

The signing of this MoU was witnessed by President of Indonesia, SBY, and President of Turkey, Abdullah Gul, in the sidelines of Business Forum Indonesia – Turkey in Ritz Carlton Jakarta, Tuesday (05/04). In addition to the Presidents from both countries, a number of Ministers and businessmen such as Economic Coordination Minister, Hatta Rajasa, Forrestry Minister, Zulkifli Hasan, and Cooperative Minister, Syarif Hasan, and Head of BKPM, Gita Wirjawan, and South Sumatra Governor, H. Alex Noerdin, who was accompanied by Head of BKPMD South Sumatra, Permana, Head of South Sumatra Energy and Mineral Resources Department, Robert Heri, and Head of Public Relation and Protocols Office of the Governorate, Roby Kurniawan, were also attending the MoU signing.

Governor H. Alex Noerdin, explained that the cooperation built between the local government of South Sumatra and Turkish investor will be in geothermal sector, since Indonesia is the second largest country (after USA) with 40% of total world geothermal potential, and 70% of these resources are located in Rantau Dadap Regency, Muara Enim district.

The Governor added that the Turkish investor was interested in South Sumatra not only due to its geothermal potential, but also due to a very supportive investment climate in the province – in addition to the guaranteed safety, order and licensing issues, which are among the requirements sought after by investors.

“Insya Allah, if we can get more investors to invest in our region, we will be able to keep in pace with other provinces, and succeed to reach our “Sumsel Gemilang” [Glorious South Sumatra] vision,” said Alex.

He further explained that the Turkish Investor will visit South Sumatra as a follow up to this MoU.

Meanwhile, in his speech, President SBY said that the MoU signing between Turkish investor and South Sumatra Province was an exemplary step that mark the cordial relation between the two countries. According to the President, his side and the Turkish President’s side shared strong commitments to even increase more cooperation in business and investments.

This steps must be followed suit by cooperation in other fields, which will be beneficial for both countries. New investment to Indonesia will definitely increase the economic growth of the two countries.
